The Embroidery Bug

I made a little pouch as part of a swap and although there really isn't all that much actual embroidery on it, it reminded me of the joy of hand stitching.



I embroidered these Lotus shoes a few years ago as part of my shoemaking course. I made them as part of a reproduction module and it was my first attempt at satin stitch. How wonderful to see the butterflies come to life. I read several books on the history and social significance of the lotus shoe, two particular favourites I have added to my own collection; Every Step a Lotus: Shoes for Bound Feet and Splendid Slippers: A Thousand Years of an Erotic Tradition.



Now I am thinking about my next embroidery project....
