Received Swaps - Hurrah

Yesterday and today I received post - I love packages, the anticipation of what's inside - hurrah!

The recycled stuffy I received yesterday came from Giovanna in Italy.

Today's package from the 'I can't get that where I live" swap from Ola in the Czech Republic.

How spoilt!

Recycled Stuffy

This little fella was finished off last night as my swap to send off for a recycled stuffy through Swap-Bot.

My first fella turned out bad. I'm not going to post him for a bit, don't really know at what stage he went wrong... but he did.

The Embroidery Bug

I made a little pouch as part of a swap and although there really isn't all that much actual embroidery on it, it reminded me of the joy of hand stitching.

I embroidered these Lotus shoes a few years ago as part of my shoemaking course. I made them as part of a reproduction module and it was my first attempt at satin stitch. How wonderful to see the butterflies come to life. I read several books on the history and social significance of the lotus shoe, two particular favourites I have added to my own collection; Every Step a Lotus: Shoes for Bound Feet and Splendid Slippers: A Thousand Years of an Erotic Tradition.

Now I am thinking about my next embroidery project....

Works In Progress

Some sneak peeks of some works I have in progress at the moment.

For a Recycled Stuffy Swap through Swap-Bot.

Some patchworking projects for Christmas gifts...

Book Update

I am mad for books, especially art and design and for my Birthday I received the following:

From my parents (my Mum and my Dad & Wicked Step Mother : P ) I was lucky to receive some cash to purchase what I wish, some of which I spent on some books from Amazon. The first delivery arrived on Sunday - what a nice suprise to receive mail on the weekend!

Three books, one of which I will show one today:

Illusive, Contemporary Illustration and its Context

I only flipped through five or six times so far and there are so many marvellous pictures of some amazing work!

Stina Persson

Julia Pfaller

Karen Ingram

Catalina Estrada

So many pages of inspiration!

This book I was given by my parents in law:

500 Baskets

I've always flirted with the idea of doing some basket weaving, but have never actually had a go. This book has some amazing contemporary artists using some really inventive mediums.

This is one of my favourites called Phoenix by Angie Harbin. It's made from nylon, epoxy resin, paint and wax.
